After the typical fast start we have reached the infamous ‘Kickstarter plateau’, that long middle where the pledges flatten out.
We are halfway through the crowdfunding campaign but just 40% of the way to the target. We need your help to get this funded. By backing the project through your pledge to pre-order the books and by sharing the project as widely as possible you can help us tremendously.
And to whet your appetite, let’s talk about some of the rewards for backing the project besides the books…
If you've taken a look at the campaign for Draw This Book, you'll have seen that we are offering the chance to pledge for one of six original drawings by award-winning and bestselling children's book creators Rob Biddulph, Fiona Woodcock, David Litchfield, Gillian Flint, Erika Meza and Flavia Z Drago.
These are extra special rewards that we've curated just for the campaign, and you really can't get them anywhere else. The art is original and hand-drawn (not prints) and these are some of the top children's book creators working today.
We have just started pushing these rewards on social media, and already two of them have been snapped up: Flavia Z Drago's and Erika Meza's.
They were gone in a matter of minutes! Perhaps that’s no surprise as Flavia was this year's "Illustrator of the Fair" at London Book Fair and Erika has just been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal (for those of you in the US, it's the UK equivalent of the Caldecott Medal).
Before we start putting the word out about the other drawings, we wanted to give our readers at Brydon Books’ This Little Publisher and The [ED]it the chance to pledge for them first. Your support means so much to us, and we wanted to extend this courtesy to you!
If you have any interest in owning a really special piece of original artwork from one of these incredible creators, please check out those rewards here:
ROB BIDDULPH (of Draw with Rob!)
GILLIAN FLINT (Tiggy series, Hugga Bugga Love)
DAVID LITCHFIELD (The Bear and the Piano)
FIONA WOODCOCK (The snow Dragon, Look)
...and go for it before they get claimed like the others!
If you have any questions about the drawings or the artists, please feel free to ask (you can ask us a Q through Kickstarter - or just send an email to alli@brydonbooks.com).
// Photography
In a departure for me from my usual narrative-driven documentary photography I recently did the products photographs for the first two books. With the expertise and help of the master Abbas Nazari at Kiln Photo where I go to develop, edit and process my film and digital work, I was able to get something I really liked in the studio area there.
Here they are:
// In the News
Draw This Book was featured on Twinkl this week. If you are a parent you may remember using Twinkl’s wonderful educational resources during the pandemic, that’s how we first found out about them. In this case, they came to us after finding the Kickstarter campaign. Apparently, we are "revolutionising reading!" (Their words, not ours.) Go have a look; it's a great deep dive on the books, their concept, and the importance of literacy.
We were also featured in our local newspaper, the Farnham Herald. Always thankful to local news outlets that are doing the best they can to put out quality journalism.
Please back the project by pledging your pre-order below and sharing it as widely as possibly with your networks and people whose children you think will love these books.
Thank you again for your support!
