Many people, myself included, consider Paris to be a city of magic. It’s an image the city, and the many photographers who have lived there or visited, have cultivated. Like any city though, I find that trying to understand all aspects of a place is part of the magic of travel and exploration. And you don’t have to go too far to find magic, just start by wandering your own nearby places1, 2.
I’m delighted to say I have updated my website and now have a dedicated set of galleries that are not just about travel, but about ‘places’. Here is the set for Paris.
Let me know if any images pop out to you from these as favourites.
I’d also love to hear about your experiences about travel. Where have you found magic?
How do you get under the skin of a place?
What are the best ‘travel’ articles and books you have read that go beyond the surface?
Start a discussion in the comments, or if you are more comfortable with email I’d love to hear from you that way.

Based on some new research and the people who have contacted me through the ad placed in the local Blaenau Ffestiniog Welsh language paper Llafar Bro, I’m finalising my travel plans for the summer and autumn to make more photographs.
As always stay tuned for more, but if you want to understand some of the magic of the area, you’ll enjoy reading about artist David Nash’s work in one of the book recommendations below1.

Paris pictures online event
I’m really excited to say I’m working on a way to do something online with another photographer who is a good friend. Paris is close to our hearts for different reasons so I’m really looking forward to making it happen.
This will replace the artists talk event I was hoping to organise but that looks like will unfortunately not happen now.

Hop Harvest exhibition at Farnham Maltings
Hops might just be the magic ingredient in beer, especially my favourite ‘hop-forward’ American-style IPAs. Have you got a favourite beer? Mine is currently Camden’s ‘Eazy’ hazy IPA. Sierra Nevada is the one that got me into them though, when I lived in America, and there are plenty of great Vermont-based breweries.
I’m now in the phase of planning some events around the exhibition. I’m hoping to organise a viewing as well as some photowalks. If you’d like to be part of these let me know and I’ll keep your contact details for the invites.
Make sure to read future editions of this newsletter and follow me on Instagram for further details.
If there are any other events you think would be appropriate I’d love to hear your ideas.

// Endnotes
I recently read Jini Reddy’s wonderful book, ‘Wanderland’. In it she talks about wandering the landscape and nature of the UK. Along the way, she is best by introspection, doubts, conflict and racism, but also by the magic in front of her or that she comes to notice and recognise.
Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s ‘World of Wonders’ truly is what it says on the cover. Alongside beautiful illustrations by Fumi Nakamura, Aimee poetically brings you into a very deep personal exploration of nature through her own life experiences, with the magical flora and fauna of her world playing their part as characters. Perhaps it would behoove us all to appreciate nature more in this way, as characters in our lives, not a thing that is just there – because soon, much of it won’t be.
As always, thank you for reading The [ED]it, I hope you enjoyed it, please do forward this on to anyone else you think might enjoy it.
